Applied Kinesiology Methods for a 10-Year-Old Child with Headaches, Neck Pain, Asthma, and Reading Disabilities

A case report, published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, describing the chiropractic care of a 10-year-old boy with developmental delay, asthma, and chronic neck and head pain, and the muscular imbalances found on manual muscle testing that guided his treatment.

Before care, the child struggled to read — with eye strain, poor recall of classroom material and difficulty moving from one line of text to the next — and remained symptomatic during exercise despite four asthma medications. He was evaluated and treated using Applied Kinesiology, including spinal and cranial treatment.

The authors report improvement in his reading, head and neck pain, and respiratory distress; after five treatments over three weeks he was reading at his own grade level, and he remained symptom-free two years later. As a single case report, it describes one patient’s course rather than establishing effectiveness.
